The department seeks to be an academic and research reference of engineering applications in the Kingdom and the region to contribute to agricultural production that depends on modern technologies and solutions to its problems.
Agricultural engineering is essential in regards to planning and carry in out the agricultural projects. particularly those which are applied on large scales. Moreover, it represents the mid-joint between both the agricultural and engineering sciences. There is no doubt that there are direct and active effects of the agricultural engineering on human progress and their welfare. The reason is that it uses the optimum scientific methods for solving problems related to agriculture which in turn helps in the increase the agricultural production and providing the food security. The Agricultural engineering applies the principles of engineering methods for solving agriculture problems in various fields. Such fields are food process engineering, irrigation and drainage systems, farm power and machinery, and design of agricultural structures and environmental controls, precautions, storage and expiry dates. Measurement of field performance and laboratory educations.
I am pleased to welcome you in the site of Agricultural Engineering Department, College of Food and Agricultural Sciences, King Saud University.
The department has an essential role since its inception in 1394 in serving the agricultural and industrial sectors through graduation of a large number of highly qualified academically agricultural engineers.
Students learn skills, and basic sciences and engineering that would enable them to access different agricultural systems with higher efficiency to ensure the best results both technically and economically.
The department has a number of laboratories equipped with technical units and instruments to train students and who is interested in agricultural engineering. Also, there is a wide range of educational farm machinery and tractors, various irrigation systems, greenhouses, and crops storages used for training. There is also a workshop belonging to the Agricultural Engineering Department equipped with modern training and equipment.
The department has high experienced competence faculty, assistant investigator and technicians who contributed greatly to the completion of a large number of applied engineering research that serve the agricultural and industrial sectors, as well as authoring and translation of a large number of books and scientific publications and press outreach.
In conclusion, I thank the visitor for the navigation of this site and wish to find useful information.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Plant Production Department, King Saud University and introduce you to our academic activities. In 1965, the Plant Production Department emerged as the first plant science academic department in Saudi Arabia. The Department is concerned with generation, integration and application of knowledge on production of crop plants and management of renewable natural resources (Rangelands and Forests) for the benefit of mankind. Facing all constraints (e.g. Drought, Salinity and Hyper temperatures) put upon our agricultural community by the uniquely harsh desert environment of Saudi Arabia, the Department has a great challenge of finding and disseminating answers to problems and discovering alternative opportunities for efficient and sustainable crop production and management of renewable resources through the integration of teaching, research and extension
The Department enjoys its highly diverse faculty staff both in terms of their academic and research interests. This gives us an opportunity and advantage to meet the rapidly-changing needs of the present and those of future generations. We utilize inter-agency cooperation programs both in Saudi Arabia and abroad to achieve our goals. In this regard, we welcome visiting professors from other Universities to share their experience and knowledge and graduate students from all over the world to seek solutions for local or global problems related to our interests. The Department offers a BSc. degree in Plant Production Sciences and MSc. degrees in Crop Science, Horticulture, and Range Science & Forestry. Also, the department participates in an interdisciplinary MSc. program in Biodiversity. Graduates of the Department are highly qualified in their profession both in the public and private sectors.
Department Head,
Dr. Nasser A. Al-Sohaibani
The vision of the Plant Production Department is to be a leading academic department in the fields of crop science, horticulture and management of rangelands and forests through achievement of high standards of teaching and research.
Towards Better Agricultural Environment.
Active participation in technical and scientific renaissance that started to be regular in the country and enriched -research, teaching and guidance- in the field of animal production and food security.
