It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Plant Production Department, King Saud University and introduce you to our academic activities. In 1965, the Plant Production Department emerged as the first plant science academic department in Saudi Arabia. The Department is concerned with generation, integration and application of knowledge on production of crop plants and management of renewable natural resources (Rangelands and Forests) for the benefit of mankind. Facing all constraints (e.g. Drought, Salinity and Hyper temperatures) put upon our agricultural community by the uniquely harsh desert environment of Saudi Arabia, the Department has a great challenge of finding and disseminating answers to problems and discovering alternative opportunities for efficient and sustainable crop production and management of renewable resources through the integration of teaching, research and extension
The Department enjoys its highly diverse faculty staff both in terms of their academic and research interests. This gives us an opportunity and advantage to meet the rapidly-changing needs of the present and those of future generations. We utilize inter-agency cooperation programs both in Saudi Arabia and abroad to achieve our goals. In this regard, we welcome visiting professors from other Universities to share their experience and knowledge and graduate students from all over the world to seek solutions for local or global problems related to our interests. The Department offers a BSc. degree in Plant Production Sciences and MSc. degrees in Crop Science, Horticulture, and Range Science & Forestry. Also, the department participates in an interdisciplinary MSc. program in Biodiversity. Graduates of the Department are highly qualified in their profession both in the public and private sectors.
Department Head,
Dr. Nasser A. Al-Sohaibani
