In The name of God the Merciful the Beneficial
The Department of agricultural economics faculty, with different areas of expertise, plays an important role in the Saudi agricultural economy. The Department conducts original in-depth studies on the overall economic variables, as they relate to agriculture. Our students specialize in marketing, development, production economics, farm management, and environmental economics, both at the Bachelor and Masters’ levels.
The Department’s 22 faculty and staff members are committed to excellence in teaching, research and international programs, and management of the agricultural economy in the Kingdom. Areas of expertise include planning and development, economic policy, agricultural marketing, business administration, and economics of farm production.
The Department’s programs have three main objectives:
The graduate (Master Degree) program focuses on solving practical problems in the areas of production economics, marketing, agribusiness, natural resource management, public policy, and rural development.
The Department’s research programs also seek to provide accurate and objective technical information to policy makers, managers, and professional analysts. Recent research projects focused on agriculture trade problems which affect the global competitiveness, profitability and sustainability, thereby improving the efficiency of agricultural production and marketing system as well as the quality of life for farmers in the Kingdom.
The Department’s research projects also contribute to increasing the role and opportunities of international trade, politics, development, and to understanding the direct and indirect effects of the international trade on Saudi farmers.
The department was established in 1385 and began to develop rapidly through four stages, in the first phase contributed to the decisions in the agricultural economy and rural society to produce graduates of the General Division until 1395, and began the second phase in 96/1397 AH, where he graduated from the department first batch concentration and includes 29 students, while The third stage is the stage specialization in the agricultural economy and rural society, which began in 1401/1402 AH and was the first of its graduates 18 students, and continued to tender the first semester 1410/1411 AH where it began the fourth phase separation of Agricultural Economics Department of Agricultural Extension to become part independent of the graduation of specialists in agricultural economics.
Future strategy for the Department of Agricultural Economics
First: a short-term strategy (1-3 years)
A - with respect to the management of the program and the work environment department
1 - Composition of the Quality Assurance Committee, among other committees, and the selection of appropriate competencies and determine their functions, standards and draw plans and develop a vision, mission and goals of the department and to work on the preparation of the League calendar continuously carried out at least every 3 years.

Emphasis on activating scientific research teams branches of the department and follow-up activities to ensure the continuity of the quality of scientific research of the department and its outputs.

- With regard to students of the Department
1 - building bridges between students and faculty and touch the needs assessment and reassurance on their level of education and the creation of academic atmosphere such as the provision of special places available all the necessary requirements.

3 - Support for field activities and the existence of a clear system to assess and identify the tasks and duties and continuity in the development of performance.

- Continue to develop cooperative agreements with other institutions to optimize the use of devices and high-cost equipment with a clear policy for maintenance and replacement.
